Description
The 14,000' peaks of the Palisades region in the Sierra Nevada stand guard over Dusy Basin as the setting moon casts the alpine landscape in shadow. The Milky Way rises to the South and illuminates the granite with starlight. The calm waters reflect the entire scene while the motion control camera dollies 6 feet to the left while panning to track the center of our home galaxy.
Cinematographers note: This particular scene required great effort to capture. From timing the moon fade with the Milky Way rise to getting all the motion control gear into the backcountry. I actually shot this same exact scene 2 nights in a row to get the timing just right. Marmots surrounded our camp for 5 days and chewed through our belongings. Somehow they managed to let the motion control rig work through the night without ingesting any cabling for a midnight snack. I guess they don't care for the taste of 3D printed nylon motion control equipment.
