Gazans hard at work to reopen vital tunnels During Israel's eight-day bombardment of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military said it hit more than 1,500 targets, including tunnels it believes Hamas used to smuggle in weapons from neighbouring Egypt. Since Israel launched its blockade on the territory in 2007, the tunnels have served as a lifeline for delivering basic goods to residents.
