Morocco eyes law on child marriage The number of child marriages in Morocco has risen to more than 35,000 in 2010 from 30,000 two years before, official figures show. Article 19 of the family code adopted in 2004 prohibits marriage for anyone below 18 years of age, considered the age of adulthood, but judges have often waived the rule. On the cusp of a victory in parliament against allowing rapists to marry their victims and escape prosecution, defenders of women's rights in Morocco are taking their fight to the next level -- to ban child marriage.
