No death sentence for Kampala bombings convicts Five men convicted of terrorism and murder for the 2010 Kampala bombings have been sentenced to life imprisonment, including the mastermind of the attacks, Issa Lumiya. Two others have been given 50 years in prison and five others acquitted, despite the prosecution pushing for the death sentence. The Somali Islamist group, Al-Shabaab, claimed responsibility for the attacks which killed over 70 people watching a World Cup final in two bars in the Ugandan capital.
