South Sudan: Gal Taban Deng Gai appointed first vice president 2 A group of high-ranking members of the SPLM/A (IO), movement of former rebel leader Riek Machar have appointed Teng Deng Gai as interim vice-president in Machar's absence. Machar has not been seen in public since he left the capital Juba after clashes that threatened to destroy a 2015 deal to end the country's civil conflict.
