Nicaraguan author awarded Cervantes literature prize Nicaraguan writer and former politician Sergio Ramirez was awarded the Cervantes prize, the Spanish speaking world's highest literary honour, in Managua on Thursday. On receiving the award, the author said the award validated his career choice as a narrator and poet, despite having played a role against former dictator Anastasio Somoza and trying for presidency in 1996.
