HONDURAN CONGRESS FAILS TO ELECT NEW ATTORNEY GENERAL Attempts to elect a new attorney general in Honduras stall after congress fails to reach a qualified majority (86 votes). Opposition parties achieved a combined vote of 63 against the commission’s candidates for attorney general (lawyer Hermes Moncada) and junior attorney general (lawyer Daniel Sibrian). The session has now been suspended until this afternoon. The election turned controversial after the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras launched a corruption investigation named Pandora, involving a number of current congressmen.
