French woman retraces WWI vet great-grandfather's last days Hunting for information on her World War I veteran great-grandfather, Emeline Leger, 31, discovered that her ancestor lived his last days in an asylum in northern France. Philoxime Deson died in the hospital after spending just one month there in 1931. "My mother's eldest sister had always heard that he died of a brain tumor," explains Emeline, "I think that was a way of hiding the fact that it was probably shameful to be admitted to a psychiatric asylum."
