US government isn't ready to handle natural disasters: expert Josh Sawislak, an expert on climate and disaster resilience, says the US government is not "prepared to deal" with current natural disasters as the Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1. "We have to get in front of the disasters and we have to be better at preventing the damage, not try to come in after and clean it up," says Sawislak, who served in the Obama administration as associate director for climate preparedness at the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
