Zimbabwe: US and EU pledge funds during UN aid appeal The United Nations launches a US$331 million appeal to meet the needs of the most vulnerable Zimbabweans, for which the EU pledges US$11.15 million and the United States US$45 million. Executive Director of the World Food Program David Beasley says 2.5 million Zimbabweans are 'in crisis emergency mode, marching towards starvation.' In addition to helping to alleviate food insecurity, the appeal is also seeking to address the needs of Cyclone Idai victims which hit parts of eastern Zimbabwe earlier this year.
