Malawi court begins hearing opposition challenge of election results In Malawi, opposition parties the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the United Transformation Movement (UTM) are joining forces to challenge the results of the May 21 presidential election, alleging electoral fraud. The court earlier dismissed an application from attorney general Kalekeni Kaphale, representing the Malawi Electoral Commission, who wanted the court to adjourn commencement of the trial to allow his team to peruse submissions from the opposition parties.
