POPE JOHN HONORED: PONTIFF RECEIVES PEACE PRIZE: At St. Peter's Basilica; a ceremony without precedent in Vatican circles; Pope John XXIII becomes the first Pontiff to receive a prize for peace - the Balzan Prize; worth $230;000. He immediately announced he would use the money to set up a foundation to work for international peace.
