Berlin; West Germany: President Kennedy's speech in West Berlin In June 1963 President John F. Kennedy embarked on a European visit. He receives a thunderous welcome and a ticker tape parade on the route to City Hall in West Berlin. It was here he gave his famous Let Them Come To Berlin speech. He ended that speech with: All free men; wherever they may live; are citizens of Berlin; and; therefore; as a free man; I take pride in the words Ich bin ein Berliner.
