1945 (May); Washington D.C.; USA: MAY of 1945 saw the lights go on again. From the nation's Capital Dome to Broadway to Seattle; the blackout was ended with the surrender of Hitler in Europe. Three months later came V-J Day when the Japanese surrendered. From one end of the country to the other it was the greatest celebration the United States has ever seen. In picture: President Harry S.
