Description
Greenpeace Australia Pacific CEO David Ritter says the "cynical lobbying" of Canberra was the only reason the Great Barrier Reef avoided being listed as an endangered world heritage site by UNESCO late Friday. Ritter says Australia's inaction on climate change should rightly mystify the world despite scientists continuing to express concerns about climate change-fuelled damage to the ecosystem's corals. At a World Heritage Committee meeting chaired by China, delegates voted not to downgrade the reef to "in danger". SOUNDBITES
