Description
The economic impact of the pandemic is pushing some communities living along Bangkok's canals even further into isolation. With most of the businesses closed and very little income, many rely on donations brought by volunteers who ferry supplies by boats. But “Food is important” says Greg Lange, co-founder of Bangkok Community Help Foundation who takes part in the distribution. “That's one battlefront, but the other one is hospital beds. There are none. You know, so we have to be a stopgap.” The focus will soon move to bringing oxygen distribution not food to people’s home as cases are surging and it can now take days before getting an hospital bed. For these disadvantaged communities, help is often out of reach. he kingdom is currently undergoing its worst-ever stretch of the pandemic after largely keeping Covid contained when the illness first emerged last year.
