Description
The US and Australian flags light up the Sydney Opera House to mark the 70th anniversary of the ANZUS treaty cited in Australia's initial deployment to Afghanistan in 2001. Australia, New Zealand and United States are parties to the treaty, which remains a strong signal of Australia's military and diplomatic ties to the US. Signed in 1951, the non-binding agreement has been cited in Australia's military deployment alongside US troops in several conflicts. IMAGES
