At a compound set to host attendees of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a few hundred Afghan refugees await their fate, hoping they will be accepted in Europe or America, but some like Ahmad Wali Sarhadi, who left his wife and five children behind in Kandahar, have no idea what lies ahead. The 28-year-old freelance journalist says he has "no final destination" yet and spends sleepless nights worrying about his family still in Afghanistan and wondering "who will accept him as a refugee".
