Description
New delivery robots in Singapore are helping residents living near a shopping centre bring home groceries and deliver food and parcels. After they go grocery shopping, residents can bring their packages to a collection point at the mall and schedule a delivery. A robot named Camello, developed by tech company OTSAW, will bring the items to the resident’s lift lobby at the appointed time, and the user can scan a QR code to open the compartment.
About 700 households in a Punggol housing estate can use the service in a one-year trial. The two robots weigh 80 kilograms each and move at a maximum speed of 5 kilometres per hour. They will be accompanied by a safety officer during the trial period.
High-tech Singapore has also used robots to broadcast safe distancing messages in parks and deployed cleaning robots in malls and at the airport. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
