Description
A long queue forms outside Singapore's Sri Veeramakaliamman temple as devotees waited for their turn to pray on Diwali morning. A crowd of people also goes shopping and admires a light display in Little India on Diwali (also known as Deepavali) eve amid strict virus curbs.
Foreign workers from India and Malaysia said they felt sad being separated from their families on Diwali, and described a quiet holiday in Singapore.
People in Singapore are only allowed to gather in groups of two in public areas, while each household is allowed up to two visitors a day as the city-state rides out a surge in infections.
The Sri Veeramakaliamman temple, one of the oldest temples in the city-state, suspended religious services during the holiday due to some covid-19 cases among its staff, but vaccinated devotees were able to make short visits to offer their prayers. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
