Description
Controversy surrounds the opening ceremony of Interpol's General Assembly as General Nasser Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi, accused of torture, continues his campaign for election as Interpol's next president. The General, head of the United Arab Emirates' security forces, stands against only one other candidate, the Czech Republic's Sarka Havrankova. Interpol's Secretary General Jurgen Stock, reiterates that 'it's first and foremost up to member countries' to nominate candidates for the post and eventually elect the organisation's president.
