Activists take to the streets of the capital Nicosia and demonstrate in front of several government buildings to protest construction projects in the Akamas peninsula, a largely unspoiled coastal area situated on the western point of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, and home to one of the few sea turtle nesting areas in the region. Protesters want the entire Akamas Peninsula designated a national park, biosphere reserve, or protected area with a corresponding international protection regime, the demolition of illegal structures and the restoration of environmental damage.
