The Paris-Vienna night train the reopens. Despite the onslaught of Covid-19, night trains are coming back, offering an eco-friendly alternative to air travel, subsidized by the French government. In France, the trigger was a speech by Emmanuel Macron on July 14, 2020, when the president announced that he wanted to "massively redevelop" night trains. Night trains have been victims of the development of the French TGV network, the abolition of military service, insufficient investments, works, strikes, delays, lack of comfort, and competition from low-cost airlines.
