Description
Banished from Hollywood and deprived of a televised ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will announce their Golden Globes winners behind closed doors on Sunday. "It's a saving face moment" for the organization, says critic Tim Cogshell. "If there were a ceremony, and they were handing out those Golden Globes, no one would be there".
The boycott is the result of years of questionable practices by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose members vote on the Globes. The group of 100-odd entertainment writers with links to foreign publications had long been accused -- privately, within Hollywood circles -- of a litany of failings from corruption to racism. Organizers are officially citing the resurgent pandemic as the reason for going virtual. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
