For 45 days, employees of the Aveyron Metallurgy Company (SAM) have been occupying their factory in Decazeville, in southern France, after Renault refused to support the only offer to take over the foundry, leaving some 350 people without a job, a symbol of the deindustrialisation of the region. "Are we condemned in places like ours, from generation to generation, to suffer the same policies with the same consequences?", asks one former employee who worked for the company for over 30 years.
