Actor Alina Serban became the first Roma woman to direct a play on the national stage after bringing her one-woman-show about a young Roma struggling with racism to the National Theatre in Bucharest. She says that her work being shown at the highest level is like "planting a flag" for Roma people and culture, but is also proud "that no matter the ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation or religion anybody can relate" with her play.
