Scattered across the fields of black soil on Kyiv’s eastern front, landmines could either form both a desperate line of defence protecting the Ukrainian capital's weakened flank or a promise of horrors to come for the locals. No one knows who laid the mines, but now that they are there, the locals and the army have to live with them.
