Thousands in the northern Indian town of Barsana welcome spring in a rainbow of colours, kicking off celebrations for the annual Hindu festival of Holi. As part of festivities based on Hindu mythology, women use sticks to hit men while they protect themselves with shields. Nationwide Holi celebrations will be marked on March 18. IMAGES
