Description
Designer Ruth E. Carter, who became in 2019 the first African American to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design with her "Black Panther" creations, showcases her vibrant body of work at the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia. Visitors have until April 3rd to see the over 60 costumes featured in the "Afrofuturism in Costume Design" exhibition, which spans nearly four decades of collaborations with directors, such as Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg. Speaking from Puerto Rico, where she is working on the set of "Black Panther 2," Carter feels she has a "bigger influence" since her Oscar win but reckons that there is still work to do for the movie industry to be more inclusive. "This is not something that can be erased overnight," she tells AFP ahead of the Oscars. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
