Description
Mummies of the Chinchorro culture, the oldest in the world to have been purposefully preserved by humans, are exhibited at the San Miguel de Azapa archaeological museum in Camarones, Arica, Chile. What makes this ancient population unique, according to the responsible of conservation at the University of Tarapaca is the "the way in which they mummified", which "does not exist in any other place".
