Description
The trial of a Gambian man accused of being part of a death squad that assassinated opponents of former dictator Yahya Jammeh, begins. In Gambia's capital Banjul, the son of an AFP journalist who was killed, and representatives of the Gambian victim's centre talk of their expectations for the trial. "It is only the first step... we are expecting that others (trials of other 'junglers') will follow" says Baba Hydara who's father, Deyda Hydara, was killed in 2004. The suspect, named as Bai L. but identified as Bai Lowe in German media, is accused of crimes against humanity, murder and attempted murder. He was arrested in Hanover in March 2021 and appears in court in the nearby town of Celle.
