Description
Students in England are bracing for a change in the way university degrees are financed which is likely to lead to them paying more in the long term. The government is reforming the student loan system to require graduates to pay back their loans for a longer period and linking them to inflation. Currently around half the value of loans are not paid back, as many graduates either don't meet the income threshold for repayment, or don't pay back the full amount before the loan expires. London-based postgraduate student Zeno, who has about £75,000 of debt, is managing to stay sanguine, saying 'I think I just have to accept the fact that I have an additional tax for the next thirty years'.
