Description
It was a night to remember for spelling enthusiasts, as a Texas teenager made history by claiming the Spelling Bee title in the competition's first-ever lightning-round tiebreaker. "This is just such a dream," said 14-year-old Harini Logan while holding the trophy. To secure her place in spelling history, Logan endured a series of setbacks that saw her eliminated and then reinstated. But in the end, the San Antonio native was the last competitor standing on Thursday in Maryland, correctly spelling 21 out of 26 words and outlasting the 12-year-old runner-up, Vikram Raju of Colorado. Logan took home the cup and a $50,000 cash prize. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
