Description
In a studio in Omdurman, the twin city of the capital Khartoum, musician Noureddine Jaber leads a rehearsal session of his six-member band "Dorpa", "the mountain band" in Bedawi, as they produce soft, jazz-like sounds for a new album, "Beja Power". Jaber, who plays a unique instrument, the"tambo-guitar", an African lyre connected to an electric guitar neck, gives a voice to Sudan's long-marginalised eastern communities, such as the Beja people, a group of nomadic herders and shepherds whose language, culture, food and music are unique.
