Description
STOCKSHOTS of petrol stations and fuel prices in Quito. Since Monday, June 13, a nationwide protest movement against the government of conservative president Guillermo Lasso has been spreading across Ecuador, particularly with regard to fuel price increases. The open-ended protests were called by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE), led by Leonidas Iza, which is calling on government to reduce prices to $1.50 for a gallon (3.78 litres) of diesel and $2.10 for petrol. Fuel prices have risen sharply since 2020, almost doubling for diesel from $1 to $1.90 per gallon and rising from $1.75 to $2.55 for petrol. STOCKSHOTS
