Description
Contestants around the globe gather in Thailand for the world's top transgender pageant, after the Covid pandemic put the competition on hold last year. Fuschia Anne Ravena from the Philippines is crowned "Miss International Queen", with runner-ups coming from France and Colombia.
Offstage, competitors say they hope to make a change, via their daily lives and work, in the way society looks at them and to end prejudice.
"After I finished the gender reassignment surgery in Thailand, I found that many people in Taiwan were looking for the information about the surgery but the society was quite closed and people couldn’t find it. The reason I became a YouTuber is to share the information I have,” says Miss Taiwan, Allie Liao.
"I was born and raised in the Philippines, and most of my clients are Filipinos. And when I'm trying to explain them, because they don't know the difference between a gay man and a trans woman, so I need to educate them and tell them about the differences. And then after the service, they take me and said 'now I understand and I will tell other people about this.' So one person a day I know I'm making a change,” says Miss Canada, Patricia Jane, who works as a hairstylist.
