Description
The head of Burkina Faso's ruling junta Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, speaking alongside ex-presidents Blaise Compaore and Jean-Baptiste Ouédraogo, calls for "social cohesion" to face jihadist violence plaguing the nation. Compaore's return home for the first time in eight years on Thursday to attend the summit has drawn widespread criticism. On April 6, he was sentenced in absentia to life in prison for his role in the assassination of his predecessor Thomas Sankara, a pan-African icon, during the coup that brought him to power in 1987.
