Description
Bison have been reintroduced to roam in 200 hectares of countryside in the south of England, marking a return for the breed that was wiped out thousands of years ago. Referred to as 'eco-engineers' by project managers the Wildwood Trust, the hope is that the animals will thin out tree cover, create watering holes and encourage native biodiversity. Just three have so far been released, with the arrival of a bull being delayed by post-Brexit bureaucracy, but the bison are expected to breed, allowing as many as 20 to roam a fenced-off area in Kent.
