Description
Pope Francis's upcoming visit to Canada where he is expected to offer an apology to Indigenous peoples for more than a century of abuses at state schools run by the church has provoked excitement, but also unease among natives. AFP spoke to an Indigenous artist, a chief and a former student for their views. While songwriter and activist Elisapie says "this is more of a time to shine a light on the people who have suffered," Chief Billy Morin and artist Wilton "Willie" Littlechild say they are hopeful the papal visit will help "heal traumas" and offer "a moment of closure."
