Description
"The sun rotates, the moon rotates, let me rotate too," says Onurcan Bayram, in his tall cylindrical Mevlevi cap, referred to as a sikke. In Northern Nicosia, Turkish whirling dervish Onurcan Bayram immerses visitors four times a day in the world of Sama; an ancient, mystical and spiritual Persian and Turkish dance in which the performer harmonises with the song of the universe. Dervish since the age of eleven, Bayram has travelled from Turkey's Izmir to introduce Cypriots to this practise, which is a "connection with God". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
