Description
With the UK's energy market regulator set to announce a rise in the price cap for domestic gas and electricity, campaigner Diane Skidmore says she is concerned that some of her neighbours will fall into debt. Her group, Fuel Poverty Action, calls for a basic amount of energy to be given to all users for free, above which charges would be higher than their current rate to discourage additional use. Diane calls tax cut and subsidy suggestions from Conservative party leadership candidates Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak 'ridiculous' and 'sticking plasters', saying only wholesale reform can fix the system. Her tips for saving money: turn down your thermostat, as even just a couple of degrees can make a difference; keep moving; and wear layers. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
