Just a stone's throw from a congested Luanda street, partially covered by a dense row of little shops and food stalls, stands a dilapidated concrete bullring -- a remnant of Angola's colonial past. Once part of the cut and thrust of city life, the arena has been abandoned for decades. To access the it now, one must pass through a corrugated iron gate and climb steps lined with rubbish. The arena's upper floors are inhabited by squatters and the air is permeated by the smell of urine.
