Description
"The Gambia suffered from the colonial rule," says Hassoum Ceesay, the director of the Gambian National Museum, as he reflects on the nation's history during its colonial era. "It was marked by exploitation and oppression." An elder in the coastal suburb Fajara, meanwhile, reminisces how he developed his love for the Queen at an early age.
The Gambia had been a member of the Commonwealth from 1965 to 2013, before re-applying for membership in 2017.
