Description
A plan by the Danish government to abolish a public holiday to fund its defence budget amid the war in Ukraine causes outcry in the Scandinavian country.
"This is a very bad idea ... People work enough in Denmark. I think we need all the days off there are", says one Copenhager to AFP.
"I think it's wrong how they're doing it, because they're interfering with the Danish model", laments another Dane.
The left-right government coalition in power since December, headed by Social Democratic Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, plans to scrap the religious public holiday known as "Great Prayer Day", observed since the 17th century.
Only 17 percent of the Danes support the plan, while 75 percent oppose it. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
