At a monastery to St. George in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, riddled with holes from the bullets, shells and shrapnel, two Russian men in army uniform traipse around amid the rubble and debris. Unlike most of their compatriots in that part of the world, they are there to fight for, not against Ukraine. Part of the elusive "The Freedom of Russia Legion", they rarely provide specifics about their number or structure and most of them hide their identity as a way of protecting their loved ones still in Russia. Their spokesperson, call-sign Caesar, insists that he is not "not fighting against my motherland, but against evil", denouncing what he calls "Putin's regime" and what he calls "an unfair war".
