Description
"They discriminated against us, they exploited us," says Moussa, an undocumented Malian worker who worked for several months on the site of the Athletes' Village, and who is keen to reveal "what lies behind all the beautiful stadiums" that people see. "If you don't have the papers, you do all the shit, you have no choice," says Gaye, also undocumented, employed on the Marville swimming pool site before being abruptly dismissed by his boss following an inspection by the labour inspectorate. On the sites under construction for the future Paris Olympic Games, which are to be France's showcase in 2024, the presence of this illegal workforce has become an issue of political tension and social exemplarity.
