Description
Pilgrims flock to Saint Mary's church in Lalibela to mark Genna, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church's Christmas, with prayer and song, just over two months after a peace deal signed on November 2 ended fighting in the country's northern Tigray region. Kengeta Belay, who grew up in Lalibela and is now a priest, says that this year's celebration was "the largest influx of pilgrims I have ever seen" in his forty years of coming to the festivities, whilst teacher Asme Mamo says that he was unable to come last year "because of the war, and I came this year because there is peace."
