Description
Tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims and holy men gather at the confluence of the River Ganges and the Bay of Bengal during the Gangasagar Mela to take a 'holy dip' on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a day with great religious significance in Hindu mythology. "Whoever takes a holy bath at the Gangasagar, he or she will be absolved of all their sins and be forever blessed," says Sukumar Singh, a Hindu monk at the festival. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
