Description
A painting by Austria's most famous painter, Gustav Klimt, will go on show to the public on Friday for the first time in nearly sixty years. "We owe this primarily to our partners at the Van Gogh Museum, who came into contact with representatives of this collection" explains Markus Fellinger, the exhibition's curator, "and who, after lengthy negotiations, agreed to lend us some of Gustav Klimt's works for the exhibition". 'Water Serpents II', which depicts naiads wrestling with a red reptile, is a major work from Klimt's golden period, during which he experimented with his most well recognised gold leaf work. The painting is on view through to 29 May at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, an institution already housing a large collection of the artist's work. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
