Description
In a cloud of dust, half a dozen dump trucks deposit their contents on the side of a road in Antakya, southern Turkey. Fifteen days after the earthquake that devastated the region, and with efforts continuing to clear the ruins of destroyed buildings, experts fear that millions of tons of debris could have a negative impact on the environment. "In Turkey, many natural areas have been devastated" says Nilay Tirac, a member of the Turkish Workers' Party. "They will try to dump the rubble in all the empty space they can find" she adds, explaining, however, that "right now, our priority really is the thousands of people who need help." IMAGES
